Ale & Champagne Glasses
Ales
|
As ale was very strong in the 18th century, it was drunk in smallish glasses, usually of funnel shape, called "dwarf" ales. The bowl was often engraved with hops and barley or made in wrythen glass. Finer examples on airtwist and opaque twist stems are very collectable, & would be found under Collectors' Drinking Glasses. Again, we stock a variety of ale glasses, ranging in price from £35 to c.£350, depending on their kind and their rarity. |

18th century champagnes were probably synonymous with ales, although unengraved examples would be used. By the early 19th century "flutes" became taller and narrower, often with fine cutting. |
